The title of this blog post doesn’t refer specifically to news about Covid-19. My solution to the problem of finding a balance between acquiring useful information, reading or watching politically-biased news, and keeping relatively sane I skim-read corona-related news, and listen to an Australian podcast called Coronacast, which I wrote about here: Covid19: Who Ya Gonna Trust?
As for lockdown, I don’t mind it, except that I always enjoy going into London. As I wrote in Writing the Blues, every so often, Transport for London threatens to bring wi-fi and data connectivity to the tube. And every time it does so, I freeze inside. It's not just the thought of spending even more time listening to other people's conversations, or rather just one side of them, at full volume. It's the fear of being got at. I can't turn my phone off in case an elderly relative needs some help. An unforeseen consequence of the Covid-19 lockdown is not having half an hour of peace a week while travelling into London, of having no escape from these always-on blues.
