The coming ed tech

I think many business organizations and educational institutions will see more blended learning initiatives being implemented in instruction in 2019. The brick-and-mortar classroom will be even more inclusive in terms of learners’ needs than in the previous year, and the virtual classroom will gain more terrain. Technologies for learning are developing at impressive rates and I think the e-learning industry will take more steps towards immersive learning.

Challenges

Keeping up with ed-tech advancements is a challenge in itself — and educators of all sorts still need a lot of support in doing this — but I think the biggest challenge for 2019 will be to actually redesign the role of the educator. Changing perceptions about a profession and what an educator should do is so much harder than getting new technology. Things have already started to change in the right direction but there’s still a lot of work to be done; maybe even beyond 2019.
