On air! By Terry Freedman

As well as the usual cacophony (or buzz) of the Bett Show, there will be some pleasant and useful sounds too.

First, Russell Prue will be running the Bett Radio station every day. The hashtags on Twitter are #NetSupportRadio and #BettShow. Russell will be broadcasting at 3pm every day. You can download the NetSupport Radio app to your smartphone to listen live.  The app also features pre-bett podcasts and regular features throughout the year.

Russell’s radio stand is at NL44.

I had a listen to wwipradio this morning, and it was very impressive. As well as lots of jingles there was also some interesting information, such as how to make a horse go in a different direction. (I tried horseriding once: never agin!). The show is put together by the children, who are in primary (elementary) school. Check them out on Twitter, where you’ll find all the info you need.

The radio station reminded me of the radio station run by the John Hanson Community School. I visited them over ten years ago, and was very impressed. Sadly, the radio station seems to be gone now, but it’s still worth reading that article I think because it just goes to show you what youngsters can achieve. I think radio or podcasting is also good for bringing elements of the school together, and involving parents and the wider community. It’s also useful for involving different subject specialisms and cross-curricular work.

Mea culpa! In the original version of this article I wrote that Sophie Bailey will be recording a live discussion on the Thursday. Sophie has been in touch to tell me that it’s actually on the Friday. Apologies for that. Here’s the updated, and correct, information:

Sophie Bailey will be recording a live discussion around the skills gap. That takes place in the Bett Arena on the Friday at 15:10. Look here for details: EDTech Podcast at Bett.
